According to research at the university of Scranton, only about 8% of people achieve their long-term goals.ย
I keep telling myself tomorrow will be different. More productive. More focused. Moreโฆ successful. But somehow, tomorrow keeps looking an awful lot like today. Some days, it feels like I have all the energy in the world. Other days? But if success is all about consistency, what do you do on the days when you just donโt feel like it? Wait for the right day to come along? What if the key to progress isnโt about waiting for the right day, but making this one count? Seems logical. Really, waiting for the โperfect timeโ is just another way of standing still.
``Some of the topics I wish to explore:
Successful people achieve their goals because of what they do, not who they are.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย Those who believe achieve โ how true is that?โโ
Making the ever-so-powerful mental shift from hoping and thinking I may be able to achieve big things in my life to knowing this in my bones and fully believing in myself is hardly the easiest of tasks. (Or so I have found.) It has taken me a very long time to realize that the biggest hurdle to anything I did was the large empty space between my ears. It wasnโt circumstance, luck, or any other external factor, but rather that crazy little voice in my head whispering all the reasons why it probably wasnโt really going to happen.
You can see a confidence, an aura even, around people who have instilled in themselves an ingrained ability to set their own goals and then go out and achieve them. Itโs not about external recognition but rather a deeper sense of pride and self-belief. These people know rather than hope that they can make positive changes in any aspect of their life. You often notice them around you, unaffected by outside influences and constraints. For them, it really does seem to be all about the journey rather than the destination. By focusing all their energy on the why and the how, their goal appears almost like a foregone conclusion.
Therefore, it seems to me that developing a similar mindset will have a huge impact on my life, or anyoneโs regardless of personal goals. Again, the importance of the accomplishment itself is vastly overshadowed by the change within, by modifying that all-important view of oneself. Iโm confident this will be hugely transformative, as our self-talk greatly determines the type of person we are, not what we say out loud to others, but what we tell ourselves in our own weird and wonderful little minds.
Consequently, if we accept this premise, the real question then is: What can be done for those of us not blessed with boundless energy and unstoppable motivation? Are we doomed to failure? I, for one, hope notโฆ
We need to forget the unrealistic overnight success stories. Real progress comes from cultivating healthy, sustainable habits, ones that can transform struggle days into manageable ones. Certainly, this is no easy task, but with all the information available these days, surely, itโs not impossible to find a variety of strategies tailored to our own unique styles. Regardless of how different success may look to each of us.
Itโs often said that consistency can outperform motivation and even inspiration over time. If smarter people than me say it, who am I to argue? (And letโs be real, the bar for โsmarter than meโ isnโt that high!) But how does this belief tie into my page and The Happy Brain Co concept?
Welcome to The Happy Brain Co (The Co stands for โCommunity,โ in case you were wondering!) where we understand that ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐น๐ผ๐ป๐ด-๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐บ ๐ด๐ผ๐ฎ๐น๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป. Iโm here to share my ongoing journey in cultivating healthy habits that boost mood, productivity, and resilience, especially on those tough days. Or at least, thatโs the goal.
Now, letโs just put it out there, I am stubborn. One hundred percent, first-grade ass (or mule, if you prefer!). Itโs a family trait, and its well past time I put it to good use for a change.
I want to create my own way forward, build consistent, positive habits that move me toward my goal. From the seemingly countless books Iโve read and researched, it appears there are endless things one can do to make progress. Yet, I have yet to find a single book that addresses how to maintain motivation over the long haul, especially when life inevitably intervenes. The answer?
Obviously, books arenโt the only source of knowledge out there. We have websites, research papers, products, visual and auditory stimulants, exercise, and more. But at the core of it all, habits are the lifeblood of consistency. The best habits become second nature, you water the plants, walk the dog, annoy your partner (easily achieved, no effort required!).
The one caveat? These habits need to be positive, healthy habits. As Iโve said, the journey mattersโperhaps even more than the destination. Sure, a six-pack of Red Bull might give you wings for an hour or two, but I guarantee you wonโt be flying too high in the long run, Icarus. And thatโs definitely not the long-term answer Iโm looking for.
So, letโs set some goals. Thereโs information gold out there, and the aim of this page is to piece it together into cohesive strategiesโstrategies that can boost mood and ingrain positive habits. The goal?
My target, try several different methods to boost my mood and motivation on my struggle days and complete 3 meaningful tasks towards my goals. Possibly only 20 mins per task. I may not always be making big strides forward, but the important thing is, Iโm still moving forward. After all, If I keep doing what I always do, Iโll keep getting what I always get. And right now? Thatโs a whole lot of frustration and not a lot of progress.
Can what I do help others? Can others help me? As with most things in life, time will tellโฆ And so, The Happy Brain Co Facebook page is born.
For those interested in exploring ideas, strategies, and techniques to create real, quantifiable improvements in mood and progress, please follow along. And if you feel comfortable, Iโd love for you to share your own goals and insights along the way. Your perspectives on how you push through unmotivated, flat days might help othersโincluding me.
I wish you all the best of luck. (Not that luck will be a factor.)
